While working at Miller’s Vanguard, I was tasked with redesigning the information packs handed out to new engineers on their first day.
This involved print design, web design, and many cross-department meetings to decide what the new starts needed to know and when.
I started by building a webpage to keep all the pre-induction information together in one place. This would be the first thing sent out to new recruits after their job offer was made official and accepted.
By making sure all logistical information (where to go, what to bring, an overview of their training actvities) for their induction week was together and easy to access via an email, the hope was to both settle any nerves for the new engineers and cut down on the amount of back and forth with HR.
I also produced a short ‘Joining The Team’ booklet to be handed out on their first day. This contained key information about the company structure, the different departments, useful contacts for their line managers as well as IT, HR, and Payroll.
These A5 booklets were both to provide info on the first day, and be retained by each regional engineer as a place to find basic company information while on the road.
There were a few other miscellaneous pieces of paperwork – such as these ‘Engineer Working In Store’ signs to be displayed on van dashboards, and lanyards denoting which group each person was a part of for their training week.
All of these were then packaged together in a document wallet, complete with pad and company pen, to make sure each engineer felt prepared for their induction week and career at Miller’s Vanguard.
